New: miners 1.3 – pool mining 27 Oct 2026

The CPU and GPU miners (Windows .exe, Python, Mac and the kits) now mine in the official Eddycoin pool by default: https://pool.129-159-188-73.sslip.io (fee 2 %, paid out from 1 EDDY, only finalized rewards, pool stats). You can still mine solo: pick or Add a normal server in the miner's Server list (e.g. https://eddycoin-demo.pages.dev or your own node http://127.0.0.1:8770) – the miner detects pool or solo by itself.

Changelog 1.3: pool mode (shares, payout address, vardiff), pool is the default only for new installs – existing saved settings are kept and the pool is just added to the list; a solo server never fails over into a pool; animation in the miner window (puzzle pieces snap together into an EDDY coin on every accepted share/block, coin chain; Settings → Animation to turn it off); GPU miner keeps the “no OpenCL” warning. Old miners keep working solo. Details: README_POOL.txt

Fair launch: the live testnet started at 0 EDDY – no premine, no faucet. Coins exist only when a CPU miner (E-Chain) and a GPU miner (D-Chain) both find a block for the same Y checkpoint. The reward follows a declining 100-year emission (149.85005307 EDDY per checkpoint at the start, split 50/50, 8 decimals).

Start mining in 4 steps

  1. Open /live (or the Eddycoin Wallet app) and click Create my wallet: name + password (twice), then Download backup. Detailed guide with screenshots.
  2. Copy your address (eddy1…).
  3. Run both miners with your address – double-click the .exe and paste the address, or on the command line:
    py eddycoin_echain_cpu_miner.py --wallet eddy1YOURADDRESS py eddycoin_dchain_gpu_miner.py --wallet eddy1YOURADDRESS
(or --wallet-file "my wallet.json" – only the public address is read, no password needed)
  4. Watch your blocks on /live: the reward shows as pending until both an E and a D block exist, then it is finalized in your wallet.

Difficulty starts at E 28 bits / D 33 bits (about 30–60 s per E block on a typical desktop CPU at half its cores, about 10–30 s per D block on a mid-range GPU) and retargets every 10 blocks per chain toward 30 s per block (±2 bits per step). More miners → higher difficulty.

Windows apps (.exe, no Python needed)

Built with PyInstaller. They are not code-signed, so Windows SmartScreen shows “Windows protected your PC” – click More info → Run anyway. The GPU miner needs your graphics driver's OpenCL runtime (normal NVIDIA/AMD/Intel driver; CUDA Toolkit not needed).

No wallet is bundled. On first start the wallet offers Create new wallet or Open wallet file.

macOS

Eddycoin Wallet for Mac (.dmg) Eddycoin Miner for Mac (.dmg)

Open the .dmg and drag the app to Applications. First start: right-click the app → Open (macOS 15+: System Settings → Privacy & Security → Open Anyway). Apple Silicon + Intel, macOS 10.15+, no Python needed.

Eddycoin Node play / experimental

A node is a program that keeps its own full copy of the Eddycoin chain on your computer. It downloads every checkpoint and block, re-checks all of them itself (proof of work, difficulty, rewards, signatures, no double spends) and talks to other nodes. While the live server is online, the node simply follows it. If the server is switched off, the nodes of you and your friends keep the chain going on their own: miners and wallets can point to a node instead of the server, and nodes pass new blocks and transactions to each other.

It runs on almost any computer: Windows (the .exe below, no Python needed), or Linux / macOS / Raspberry Pi with Python 3.8+ (no extra packages; the window needs tkinter, otherwise use --headless). Your chain is saved in %APPDATA%\EddycoinNode (Windows) or ~/.eddycoin_node and re-validated on every start.

Eddycoin Node Setup.exe Eddycoin Node.exe (portable) Eddycoin Node - for friend.zip eddycoin_node.py eddycoin_node.zip README_NODE.txt

Step by step

  1. Windows: run Eddycoin Node Setup.exe (installs for your user only, no admin rights; Start menu + desktop shortcut) – or just double-click the portable Eddycoin Node.exe. SmartScreen: More info → Run anyway. Mac: Eddycoin Node (Mac).zip (needs Python 3.10+ from python.org). Linux / Raspberry Pi: python3 eddycoin_node_gui.py (from eddycoin_node.zip) or python3 eddycoin_node.py --headless.
  2. That's all: the node starts by itself, downloads the E-Chain, D-Chain and Y-Chain, checks every block and connects to other nodes automatically (seed servers, nodes learned from other nodes, and nodes in your home network). The window shows all three chains live; the top line should read Following the seed – in sync with the network. Closing the window keeps it running in the tray.
  3. Point your miners and wallet at the node: in the miner's Server list click Add (wallet: Server button → Add), enter http://127.0.0.1:8770 (button Copy in the node) and pick it.
  4. Server list: add your friend's node URL too (e.g. http://192.168.1.20:8770 or http://name.duckdns.org:8770). Test shows which servers answer. If the selected server is unreachable for 60 s, the miners switch to the next one by themselves. On the command line: --server URL repeated or comma-separated. (http:// is accepted only for this PC, LAN IPs and node URLs with a port; it is unencrypted.)
  5. In the node: tab Nodes → Add / Remove / Test a friend's node, tab Seed servers for the seed list (failover), tab Settings for port, data folder and “Allow other nodes to connect”.

Do I need a fixed IP address?

No. Your node connects out to the server and to other nodes, just like a web browser, and that works on any normal internet connection. You only need more if other people should be able to connect to your node:

  • Same home network: in Settings tick Allow other nodes / computers to connect to my node (or --listen 0.0.0.0); nodes in the same network then find each other automatically. Others use http://YOUR-PC-LAN-IP:8770. Windows may ask to allow it through the firewall.
  • Over the internet: in your router, forward TCP port 8770 to your PC. Because most home IPs change, use a free dynamic DNS name (e.g. DuckDNS, No-IP) so friends always reach http://yourname.duckdns.org:8770. Enter that URL as Public URL so other nodes learn it.
  • If at least one friend's node is reachable, everyone else can connect out to it – not everybody needs port forwarding.

Limits (it is a toy): test coin only, no real value. Nodes talk plain HTTP (no encryption). If nodes split while the server is off, the chain with the most work wins when they meet again; the live server itself never switches to a node's chain, so blocks mined only on nodes while the server was off are not carried over to the server. Never put a node in front of real money.

Eddycoin Wallet (Python)

Create / open wallets, password protection (PBKDF2-SHA256 600k + AES-256-GCM, same file format as /live), balance and history, Send EDDY (signed locally, only the signed transaction is sent), change password, export key. Needs py -m pip install cryptography.

eddycoin_wallet.py

py eddycoin_wallet.py

E-Chain CPU miner

Real double-SHA-256 on your CPU cores (threads default: half of the logical cores; intensity 10–100 %). Window when started without options; command line with options.

eddycoin_echain_cpu_miner.py

py eddycoin_echain_cpu_miner.py --wallet eddy1…

D-Chain GPU miner (OpenCL)

Real GPU compute via PyOpenCL: an OpenCL kernel hashes nonce ranges in parallel; every nonce the GPU reports is re-checked with hashlib. --list-devices, --device, --batch. Needs py -m pip install pyopencl numpy.

eddycoin_dchain_gpu_miner.py

py eddycoin_dchain_gpu_miner.py --list-devices py eddycoin_dchain_gpu_miner.py --wallet eddy1…

Everything in one zip

eddycoin_miners_and_verifier.zip GPU miner only (zip) INSTALL_WINDOWS.txt README

The zip contains the wallet, both miners (with their shared window module eddycoin_miner_gui.py), the Y-Chain verifier and the guides. Offline mode is still available: --offline writes a results file for the offline sandbox or the verifier.

Verifier: eddycoin_ychain_verifier.py – checks miner files and live chain exports (signatures, double spends, emission schedule, cap). SHA-256 checksums: SHA256SUMS.txt

Shared test wallets

Empty testnet wallets for trying things out. Anyone who downloads the same file shares the same key, so do not use them for anything you want to keep; create your own wallet in the app or on /live instead.

test wallet A.json test wallet B.json test wallet C.json

They are not password-protected; the wallet app and /live ask you to set a password when you open one (that only protects your copy).
